This Privacy Policy explains how Yassine Malti ("we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you install or use ALT SEO, a Shopify app that writes alt text for product images with AI, and when you use this website.
By installing or using ALT SEO, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, uninstall the app and stop using this website. The Terms of Service explain the rules for using ALT SEO.
Who we are
ALT SEO is operated by Yassine Malti, an independent Shopify app developer based in Ottawa, Canada. Shopify provides the store platform. ALT SEO is a separate app and is not owned by Shopify.
Information we collect
Account and store details from Shopify
When you install ALT SEO, Shopify shares the details the app needs to run:
- Your store domain and store name
- The store owner's name and email address
- An access token for the store data described below
- The billing status of your ALT SEO plan, as reported by Shopify
Store content the app processes
To write alt text, ALT SEO reads the product images you select and, when you apply a task, saves that text on the image:
- Product titles, descriptions, and images
- The alt text it writes onto those images when you apply a task
- Settings you choose, such as language, style, prompt, and which products to include
The app does not request access to your customers' profiles or order history.
Messages and this website
- Emails and other messages you send to support
- Messages you type into the support chat on this website. Those messages are sent to OpenAI so it can draft a reply
- The email address you submit on a form on this website
- The email address you submit to the newsletter on this website
- Basic technical logs, such as browser type and the pages requested, used to keep the site working
How we use information
- Provide ALT SEO, including alt text and saving it to your product images
- Show credits, plan usage, and billing status
- Send service messages you asked for, such as support replies
- Protect the app, look into abuse, and meet legal duties
- Improve ALT SEO using aggregated use of the product. We do not sell your information.
AI models and other services
When you generate alt text, ALT SEO sends the relevant product text, images, your prompt, and your settings to OpenAI. OpenAI processes that material to return text. If you use the support chat on this website, your messages are also sent to OpenAI to draft a reply. We do not let them use your store content to advertise to your customers.
When we share information
We do not sell personal information. We share it only in these cases:
- Shopify, which hosts your store, bills the app, and supplies the data the app is allowed to use
- Companies that host ALT SEO and store its database
- Email delivery for notifications and the website newsletter
- The AI and image providers above, only to complete the task you start
- Authorities when the law requires it, or when we must protect users' rights and safety
How long we keep information
We keep store data and access tokens while ALT SEO is installed, and for a short time after, so we can finish work already started, answer billing questions, and meet legal requirements. When you uninstall the app, Shopify tells us, and we delete or anonymize shop data we no longer need. Newsletter addresses stay until you unsubscribe. Support messages stay long enough to handle the request.
Security
We protect stored information with access controls and encryption in transit. No online service is perfectly secure. Keep your Shopify staff accounts protected.
International transfers
We are based in Canada. Information may be processed in Canada and in other countries where our hosting, email, and AI providers operate. Those countries may have different privacy laws. We take steps that fit the service to protect information when it moves.
Your choices and rights
- Uninstall ALT SEO in the Shopify admin to stop further access to your store
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter with the link in those emails
- Ask us for a copy, a correction, or deletion of personal information we hold about you
- If you are in the EEA, the United Kingdom, or a similar region, you may also object to certain processing and complain to your local authority
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Children
ALT SEO is a business tool for Shopify merchants. It is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we change the date at the top of this page. If you keep using ALT SEO after an update, the revised policy applies.
